WORD OF THE YEAR
Exercise: Discover Your Word of the Year
Choosing a Word of the Year is a powerful way to set an intention for the year ahead. Your word can guide your actions, inspire growth, and keep you focused on what truly matters. Follow these steps to find a word that resonates with your goals and aspirations.
Step 1: Reflect on the Past Year
Take a moment to look back on the year that’s ending. Consider the following questions and jot down your thoughts:
What were the biggest challenges you faced, and how did you navigate them?
What accomplishments or moments are you most proud of?
What lessons have you learned about yourself?
Step 2: Envision the Year Ahead
Now, turn your attention to the upcoming year. Reflect on these prompts:
What do you want to achieve or focus on in the coming year?
How do you want to feel as you navigate the year?
What’s one area of your life or work where you’d like to grow or improve?
Step 3: Brainstorm Words
Using your reflections, make a list of words that resonate with your vision for the new year. Consider words that:
Reflect your values or aspirations (e.g., Courage, Balance, Creativity).
Represent an action or mindset you want to embody (e.g., Focus, Thrive, Explore).
Capture how you want to show up for yourself and others (e.g., Compassion, Strength, Presence).
Step 4: Narrow Down Your List
Look over your list and narrow it down by asking:
Does this word inspire and excite me?
Can this word guide my decisions and actions throughout the year?
Does this word reflect what I truly need right now?
Pick one word that feels most aligned with your vision for 2025.
Step 5: Bring Your Word to Life
Once you’ve chosen your word, find ways to keep it top of mind:
Write it down and place it somewhere visible (e.g., your journal, a sticky note on your desk, or as your phone wallpaper).
Create a mantra or affirmation that incorporates your word.
Set reminders to reflect on how you’re living out your word throughout the year.
Example Words
